"The Toronto Company has run an ice rink for over 21 years. Heinz Hoffmann,
the owner and his employees were frustrated over the ice build-up on the
boards and the primitive possibilities of removal. With the motivation of
making edging easier, Hoffmann developed a Continious-Edging-System
(CES), the Conti-Edger. Unlike standard edgers
being used today, the Conti-Edger requires no supplementary action to resurface.
The Conti-Edger is used every time the ice is prepared, similarly to the
board brush. The board edge is shaved simultaneously with the resurfacing.
You stop the ice build-up effectively and the board edge is always excellent.
If necessary, the Conti-Edger can be used in combination with the resurfacer-blade
to cut down ice build-up, in the corners or over the complete ice surface.
The Conti-Edger is guided along the boards with a gliding-shoe. This gliding
shoe ensures protection of the boards. The Conti-Edger pneumatically adjusts
itself to the boards. It has a maximum range of 9.85 inches. This enables
the Conti-Edger to also shave in the curves. The shavings are automatically
pushed under the resurfacing machine and conveyed to the ice bin.
The blade of the Conti-Edger cuts or shaves the ice, using the same principle
as the blade of the ice resurfacing machine: forward movement of the resurfacing
machine, with no rotary movement. This eliminates the possibility of broken
or loosened blades, or foreign objects that may have been embedded in the
ice surface being projected onto or out of the ice-rink.
The Conti-Edger has no motor, so it needs neither fuel nor batteries, and
it causes no emmission or noise poluttion.
The board brush becomes obsolete." |
